Thai Red Shirt - Bangkok

It is on Wednesday December 29, 2010, that Thailand’s government decided to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok that had been in effect since the protests that took place last spring, in which more than 90 were killed and 1900 injured.

In the past several months, the red shirts have resumed their activities through monthly demonstrations and they still hold the same speech, that of the resignation of Prime Minister Abhisit and for elections to be held as soon as possible.

The objective of these demonstrations is to shed some light on the deep rifts between Bangkok’s elites, which came to power in 2008 in a controversial manner, and the disadvantaged rural and urban populations (red shirts), which still mostly support their former ousted Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra.
